Telecommunications Service Providers Subscriber Growth 2005-2010
a market research report
|
|
This report delineates subscriber totals for five separate telecommunication and media services through a quantitative analysis of the major players in each of the following market segments: wireless, CLEC, ILEC, IXC, and cable. In addition to enumerating subscriber totals both by number of subscribers and by percentage of subscribers held by each service provider, the report discusses the current effects of industry consolidation on these numbers: the strength of the wireless market; customer churn between DSL and cable; fluctuations in market shares, specifically between ILECs and IXCs; the rise of VoIP; and the more general interplay between each of the provider groups. The report’s forecast section is concerned with the subscriber growth that will take place during the period between 2005 and 2010. Overall, the main assertion of the report is that the future of each one these segments is very much dependant upon the actions and circumstances surrounding the others.

The purpose of this report is to quantify the number of subscribers by carrier for various telecommunication and media services. This report contains a section on each of the following categories.
· Wireless · CLEC · ILEC · IXC · Cable Companies
INSIGHT’s forecasts of the future number of subscribers to the various telecommunications service providers presented in this report were developed using a model. On the demand side of the model, we assume that eleven customer clusters or segments drive the telecommunications market:
· Wireless · ILEC business · ILEC primary line residential · ILEC secondary line residential · ILEC FTTP · CLEC · IXC · Cable TV · Cable Internet · Cable VoIP · Other VoIP
The traffic loads generated by these eleven segments have been fairly consistent and therefore predictable over the intermediate term. On the supply side of our model, however, we assume that five types of telecommunications providers will compete for the business among these segments:
· Wireless · ILEC · IXC · CLEC · Cable operators · Other
The model and resulting forecasts cover the major players in each segment, which account for approximately 80 percent of the subscribers within that segment. The moves that these players make will drive the segment. Our model can also be run assuming each major player in a provider group follows a different strategy....
