Insight: Cable Broadband, SMB Gains Exceed Video Losses

Published on December 2, 2013

Insight Research's latest report reveals that U.S. cable MSOs are reaping more revenue from broadband and business services than they're losing in video subscribers to telco and OTT competitors. According to the report, revenue from business services has been consistently growing at double-digit rates for the past few years, and cable MSOs are close to achieving a 10% market share. This year, they are projected to generate $8.8 billion in revenue by offering telecom services to small and medium-size businesses, marking a significant shift in a market traditionally dominated by telcos for decades.

Fran Caulfield, Insight Research director, elaborates,

“Cable companies continue to demonstrate strength in leveraging their existing HFC (hybrid fiber-coaxial) networks and in providing new business services, such as mobile backhaul, WiFi access, and Ethernet services.”

Insight's research also emphasizes cable companies' ongoing success in expanding their services and taking market share from telco providers who have yet to match their pricing, investment, and quality efforts.
